Playwright Kevin Bry’s In re Reinhold Kulle is a gripping one-act play that shines a light on a hidden history at Oak Park and River Forest High School. At its center is Reinhold Kulle, the school’s longtime head custodian in the 1970s and ’80s—revealed to have served as a member of the SS and as a concentration camp guard in Nazi Germany. Written by a former student who knew him personally, this bold new work explores a community torn between outrage and empathy, and wrestles with urgent questions about forgiveness, accountability, and the possibility of true dialogue across deep divides.
